Kirkjuhvammur, Hvammstanga

The site tucks into a sheltered dell just outside Hvammstangi, with a proper service building set up for campers and trailers. Around it, quiet walking routes run through open country. Hvammstangi is the largest town in Húnaþing Vestra, so the practical stuff is covered: a swimming pool, shops, a restaurant, museums and galleries. There's a playground, electricity and a washing machine on site. The town also puts you close to the Vatnsnes peninsula, a short drive away, where you'll find historical sites, views across the water toward distant mountains and a seal habitat you can reach on foot. The camp itself is 6 km from Route 1, about halfway between Reykjavík and Akureyri — an easy stop to break the north-south drive.
