Dæli sits six kilometres off the main road in Víðidalur, North Iceland, with hiking trails around it and the Kolugljúfur canyon and Borgarvirki fort close by. A facility building holds electricity, cooking, toilets and showers. You book on arrival at the campsite.
Dæli rewards the short detour — six kilometres in from the main road, out in the Víðidalur countryside near Hvammstangi. The walking is the draw: trails run through the area, and two well-known spots, the Kolugljúfur canyon and the Borgarvirki rock fort, are both within reach. The facility building covers electricity, a kitchen, toilets and hot showers. There are cottages if you'd rather not pitch a tent, plus fishing, Wi-Fi and a playground for kids. One thing to know: there's no online booking and no drop-in desk — you sort out your stay at the campsite itself. The season runs from Whitsun weekend to 15 September.
Book ahead in summer, especially near popular spots. Campsites fill up by late afternoon.
