Himnasvalir works as both a campsite and a mobile-home site, set in the Norðurárdalur valley in the north. It's a quiet spot with walking paths on hand and swimming not far off, and it takes bookings for family gatherings. The service side is solid: toilets, showers, a kitchen, and a barbecue area, plus a washing machine and tumble dryer. The on-site restaurant and coffee house keep long hours, open daily through the year from morning to evening. There's a bonus for anyone wanting to reach the interior — JRJSuperJeep is based at the site and runs day trips out to Laugarfell, a hot spring in the highlands. Trips run daily from June through September.
Wild camping rules have tightened. Use designated campsites to stay on the right side of the law.
