Strútsfoss
About
Strútsfoss is a waterfall on the Strútsá river in East Iceland.
Strútsfoss is a waterfall in Villingadalur, a valley leading off Suðurdalur in Fljótsdalur, in eastern Iceland. The waterfall is in two tiers: the lower fall is about 100 metres high and the upper fall about 20 metres. Below the falls, the river Strútsá flows through the gorge Strútsgil, which is made up of basalt lava and sedimentary layers and contains many red and yellowish-brown interbeds. The waterfall's name is thought to derive from the distinctive rock formations in the gorge that resemble stacks (strútar).
