About

Bænahúsfoss is a waterfall on the Geiradalsá river in West Iceland.

Bænahúsfoss (also spelled Bænhúsfoss or Bænhúsafoss) is a waterfall in the municipality of Reykhólahreppur in the Vestfirðir (Westfjords) region of Iceland, within the district of Austur-Barðastrandarsýsla. It is fed by the river Gautsdalsá and lies in the valley of Gautsdalur, near the farm of the same name and directly beside Route 61 (Djúpvegur). About 1.75 kilometers upstream there is an unnamed waterfall, while roughly 3.5 kilometers downstream the Gautsdalsá flows into Króksfjörður, which opens onto Breiðafjörður. The name derives from the Icelandic word bænahús, meaning "prayer house."
