Day 1 — The Golden Circle

- Þingvellir National Park — Rift valley between two tectonic plates — start of the Golden Circle
- Geysir & Strokkur — Strokkur erupts every 5–10 minutes; stand downwind at your peril
- Gullfoss — The two-tier fall that named all “golden” things here
Day 2 — South Coast to Vík

- Seljalandsfoss — The one you can walk behind — bring the rain layer
- Skógafoss — 60 m curtain with a staircase to the top
- Dyrhólaey — Arch, lighthouse, puffins May–Aug
- Reynisfjara black beach — Basalt columns and sneaker waves — read the signs, stay far back
Day 3 — Glacier country to Jökulsárlón
Southeast. ~272 km from Vík and back is long — sleep east if you can. Live road check for this leg →
- Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon — Icebergs on their way to Diamond Beach across the road
Day 4 — The East Fjords
East. ~250 km of fjord-hugging Route 1.
- Fjord villages & puffin cliffs — Slow road, constant views — check your leg before setting out
Day 5 — Mývatn & the north’s waterfalls
North. Dettifoss → Mývatn → Goðafoss, ~200 km. Live road check for this leg →
Day 6 — Akureyri and the long drive west

- Akureyri — The capital of the north — fuel, food, swimming pool
- Hraunfossar & Barnafoss — A kilometre of springs pouring straight out of a lava field
Day 7 — Snæfellsnes peninsula
West. ~400 km round trip — “Iceland in miniature” in one loop. Live road check for this leg →
- Kirkjufellsfoss & Kirkjufell — The most photographed mountain in the country
- Snæfellsjökull & the coast road — Glacier-topped volcano, lava fields, seal beaches
Day 8 — Landmannalaugar (highlands)
Highlands — F-roads, 4x4 only. F-road day: rivers, washboard, rhyolite mountains. Live road check for this leg →
- Landmannalaugar — Rainbow mountains and the natural hot creek at the hut
- F-road rules & openings — Legally 4WD only; opening dates and live status here
Day 9 — Spare weather day

Day 10 — Reykjavík & the Blue Lagoon

- Reykjavík — Harbour, Hallgrímskirkja, the pools locals actually use
