Dyrhólaey, formerly known by seamen as Cape Portland, is a small promontory located on the south coast of Iceland, not far from the village Vík. It was formerly an island of volcanic origin, which is also known by the Icelandic word eyja meaning island. The volcano erupted about 100 thousand years ago during the Pleistocene. The peninsula has an elevation of 120 metres (390 ft), and the Dyrhólaey Lighthouse, built in 1927, sits at the top of the formation facing the sea.
Ingólfshöfði is a small headland and private nature reserve on the south coast of Iceland. It is believed to be the location where Ingólfur Arnarson originally landed in Iceland in or around 874 CE, and where he stayed the first winter and it is named after him as a result. Ingólfshöfði reaches a maximum elevation of 76 meters (249 ft).
The Elephant Rock is a natural rock formation located on the island of Heimaey in the Westman Islands archipelago. The Elephant Rock is formed primarily of basalt rock, which developed through volcanic activity. The rock formation is thought to have emerged from the volcanic eruption of Eldfell in 1973, which significantly shaped the landscape of Heimaey.
