Þórsnes

Peninsula in Breiðafjörður bay, Snæfellsnes. Less visited than the main peninsula circuit. Berserkjahraun lava field covers much of it. Saga stories set here.

Snæfellsnes

Sometimes called 'Iceland in miniature' - glaciers, lava fields, black beaches, fishing villages, and Snæfellsjökull glacier volcano all in one peninsula. The drive around takes a full day but could easily fill two or three. Kirkjufell mountain (the most photographed), Djúpalónssandur beach, Búðir church, and the glacier itself are highlights. Jules Verne sent his explorers to the center of the Earth through Snæfellsjökull. Local lore has attached a fair amount of strange energy to the glacier ever since. 2-3 hours from Reykjavík. Day-trippable but better with an overnight to properly explore.
