Snæfellsnes

Sometimes called 'Iceland in miniature' - glaciers, lava fields, black beaches, fishing villages, and Snæfellsjökull glacier volcano all in one peninsula. The drive around takes a full day but could easily fill two or three. Kirkjufell mountain (the most photographed), Djúpalónssandur beach, Búðir church, and the glacier itself are highlights. Jules Verne sent his explorers to the center of the Earth through Snæfellsjökull. The glacier supposedly holds mystical energy. 2-3 hours from Reykjavík. Day-trippable but better with an overnight to properly explore.
