Grjótagjá is a small lava cave near lake Mývatn in Iceland. It has a thermal spring inside. Icelandic cave formed by volcanic activity. Ice caves are seasonal - winter only. Lava caves are accessible year-round.

Grjótagjá

Small lava cave near Mývatn with a hot spring inside. Famous from Game of Thrones. The water temperature has varied over the years - sometimes bath-perfect, sometimes dangerously hot. Currently (check updates) it's too warm for comfortable bathing. The cave is beautiful regardless - steam rises from blue water beneath lava formations. The setting is dramatic. Free to visit but respect the site. It's become too popular for its own good. The real Mývatn hot spring experience is at the Nature Baths.
