About this vehicle

The Trafic covers the same brief as the Proace: nine seats, automatic gearbox, 2WD, built to move a group around Iceland's main routes without splitting into multiple cars. If you're traveling as an extended family or a group of friends, it keeps everyone together and splits the fuel bill nine ways instead of two.

It's a road-trip van, not an off-road one — the sweet spot is Ring Road, Golden Circle, and South Coast touring, with everyone's gear stowed in one place rather than spread across two boots.

Automatic transmission takes the edge off long driving days, which matters when someone's likely doing multiple hours behind the wheel with a full van of passengers.

Where it can take you

2WD, built for paved roads — Ring Road, Golden Circle, South Coast. Good gravel at low speed is fine, but F-roads are illegal in a 2WD vehicle and would void your insurance. Skip the Westfjords' rougher unpaved stretches and any highland route in this van.

Winter driving

Handles cleared, plowed roads well with studded tyres fitted seasonally (Nov 1–Apr 14) under Icelandic rental law. Being tall and long, it's more exposed to strong crosswinds than a lower car — check the wind forecast before winter drives on exposed coastal stretches.

Luggage & fuel

With all 9 seats filled, plan on roughly one bag per person. A group of 6–7 has meaningfully more room for full-size luggage.
