About

Staðarfoss is a 30-meter waterfall on the Staðará stream in West Iceland.

Staðarfoss is a waterfall in the Westfjords of Iceland, located in Reykhólahreppur in the Vestfirðir region. The river Staðará, coming from the valley Staðardalur, plunges roughly 30 metres down from the mountain Reykjanesfjall and at times carries little water; it flows on to Breiðafjörður. The waterfall can be reached via the road Reykhólasveitarvegur in the west of the Reykjanes peninsula, and lies about 450 metres east of the former large farm Staður, which has the church Staðarkirkja built in 1864. Along the roughly eight-kilometre route to Reykhólar there are three further waterfalls — Grundarfoss, Heyárfoss and Miðjanesfoss — which cascade down from Reykjanesfjall and can be seen from the road. The Staðarkirkja church can serve as a starting point for exploring Staðarfoss on foot.
