See the best of Iceland’s South Coast on a private tour, traveling by car or minibus depending on the size of your group. Stops on this tour: ✓ Seljalandsfoss – The Seljalandsá river drops 60 meters over what used to be the coastline. A path runs behind the waterfall, so you can walk right around it and look out through the falling water. Just 500 meters away is Gljúfrabúi, a smaller waterfall tucked inside a narrow gorge, worth the short walk. ✓ Skógafoss – One of Iceland’s biggest waterfalls, 25 meters wide and 60 meters tall. On sunny days the spray often throws up a rainbow, sometimes two. ✓ Reynisfjara – Iceland’s famous black beach, backed by cliffs of basalt columns. Offshore stand the Reynisdrangar sea stacks. Puffins, fulmars and guillemots nest in the cliffs. ✓ Dyrhólaey – A 120-meter headland with a huge natural arch through it. It’s a 10-minute walk to the top, and on a clear day you can see in every direction: Mýrdalsjökull glacier to the north, the Reynisdrangar stacks to the east, and the coastline stretching west toward Selfoss. ✓ Vík – A small village on the south coast, known for its black sand beach and its hilltop church. Puffins nest in the cliffs just west of town. ✓ Sólheimajökull – On the way back, we drive through farmland and sand flats below Sólheimajökull. This glacier tongue flows down from Mýrdalsjökull, Iceland’s fourth-largest ice cap. ✓ Something extra – Depending on the time, the weather and how everyone’s feeling, your guide may add a stop or two along the way. If another start time suits you better, just ask. Your driver-guide stays with you for the whole trip. They’ll handle the driving, keep you comfortable, and tell you about the places you’re seeing along the way.
