Stops on this tour: ✓ Þingvellir National Park – This is where Iceland’s parliament, the Althing, first met over a thousand years ago. It’s also one of the few places on earth where you can see two tectonic plates, the North American and the Eurasian, pulling apart. The land between them is slowly sinking as they drift. ✓ Geysir – The drive up through the mountains is worth it on its own. The original Geysir has mostly gone quiet, but its neighbor Strokkur still erupts every 5 to 10 minutes, sending a column of water and steam high into the air. ✓ Gullfoss – The “Golden Falls” drop in two steps, one 11 meters and one 21 meters. On a sunny day there’s often a rainbow over the spray. ✓ Kerið – A volcanic crater about 5,000 years old, with a deep blue-green lake at the bottom and red rock walls. ✓ Something extra – Depending on the time, the weather, and how everyone’s feeling, your guide may add a stop or two along the way. ADD-ONS Secret Lagoon – One of the oldest swimming pools in Iceland, fed by natural hot springs. It’s simple and relaxed, with steam rising around you and a small geyser bubbling nearby. Fontana Spa – A more polished option on the shore of Lake Laugarvatn. It has geothermal pools and steam rooms built over natural hot springs. Laugarás Lagoon – A new geothermal spa set among farmland and trees, looking out over the Hvítá river. Snowmobiling on Langjökull – Ride a snowmobile across Iceland’s second-largest glacier.
