Iceland's oldest lighthouse, on the Reykjanes peninsula near Keflavík. Remote and dramatic setting. Built in 1878, the original tower was damaged by earthquakes and rebuilt. The current structure dates from 1929. The surrounding volcanic landscape is raw - recent eruptions have come close. The coastline is wild. Easy day trip from Reykjavík or stopover near the airport. The peninsula deserves more attention than it usually gets.
