About this tour

Hesteyri is one of the places everyone must visit. A visit to Hesteyri in the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve is a great experience for everyone and especially for those who want to come and see and visit one of the best kept secrets of the West Fjords, where time stands in place. The houses date from the turn of 1800/1900 and have most of them stood there unwide since the middle of the last century or about 1952 when the last possessors of Hesteyri moved away. Hesteyri is the story range of the best seller book and movie "I Remember You" by Yrsu Sigurdsdóttir. It is a great experience for those who have read the book or seen the film to come to Hesteyri and view the shooting locations as well as to experience Hesteyri in a different and beautiful picture.

We will stop at Hesteyri for approx. 1,5 hours which is enough time to look around, see all the old houses, whale station, ice cave (July) and refresh in the local Cafe "Doctors House" e.g. fish soup for lunch, coffee and freshly baked pancakes. In the Doctors House, the host is Hrolfur Vagnsson, Iceland's best accordionist sooner and later. More often than not, he takes out the accordion or the ancient Icelandic instruments, "langspil" and play's for the guests. The departure time from Horseyri is usually about 3 hours after arrival there.
