Be inspired by Thingvellir National Park, situated in a ‘no-man’s land,’ between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. This UNESCO World Heritage site is the home of Iceland’s parliament - one of the world’s oldest democracy. Here you can walk between the lava walls as people did over a thousand years ago, learning about the geology of the area and Icelandic history. You might wish to visit the exhibition located at the visitor’s centre which is curated with information about geology, human history, and the origins of Icelandic democracy.
